Convert your dress size
Convert between US, UK, EU, IT, FR, and JP dress sizes, or find your size from your bust, waist, and hip measurements.
Tables compiled from published retailer size charts (Lands’ End, Seraphina London) and cross-checked October 2026. Brands grade differently, so confirm against the retailer’s own chart before buying.
Dress size conversion chart
Use this chart for a quick lookup. The EU column follows German sizing; French sizing runs two higher, so it has its own column. JP labels are approximate and stop at smaller sizes.

How to measure your bust, waist, and hips
Take these three measurements over bare skin or light clothing, with the tape snug but not tight.
Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level across your back.
Waist
Measure around your natural waistline, the narrowest point, usually just above the navel. Relax and breathe normally.
Hips
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips.
Petite and plus-size dress ranges
Standard dress charts assume a regular height range. Petite ranges (roughly under 5’3″) adjust proportions for shorter frames, not just length. Plus (W) sizes use a different grade: a 16W measures larger than a misses 16 in bust, waist, and hips. In both cases, match the measurement columns rather than converting from your usual size.
Why the same dress size fits differently by brand
Brands cut to different body models, and numbered sizes have drifted smaller over the decades, a practice often called vanity sizing. The result: a US 8 from one label can measure like a US 10 from another. Use the converted size as a starting point and confirm against the brand’s own chart before buying.
Dress shopping tips
- If your measurements span two sizes, choose the larger size for fitted styles. Fabric with stretch is more forgiving.
- Compare the garment’s finished measurements when the retailer lists them.
- Re-measure rather than guessing from a size you wore years ago.
- For non-dress items, use the general clothing size converter.
How our dress size tables are verified
Every value in the converter and the charts above was compiled from published retailer size charts (Lands’ End and Seraphina London) and cross-checked in October 2026. Where sources use different conventions, for example EU versus French sizing, the table shows both. Retailer charts remain the final word for any single brand.
